Good Morning! Hope all is well with you and your family.

I thought I would just send a few pictures of our precious Dakota Amber. We cannot imagine life without her! We hate to be away from her for any length of time. She is so much fun and is so smart! We just love her so much!! It's nice having a big open field behind us. Jim is working every day on fetching and she loves it. I think she will be a great hunting dog...however, I told him that I cannot imagine her being away from me for a whole week when the guys go to South Dakota pheasant hunting. I may have to go along :-) I cannot believe how attached you become. She is just such a blessing to us. Thank you.

Jane,

Thank you very much for our puppy! She is doing great at the house - Not quite house broken but making good progress. She loves the kids. We named her Callaway (my wife loves golf). She sleeps from about 10:30pm until 6:00 - 6:30am without barking ot get out of her crate - when she gets tired she just marches over and goes inside. She has learned very quickly to retrive a ball and bring it back and drop it. She also knows the command to sit. You bred a very smart dog! Anyways - here are some pictures from her first weekend at her new home.

Hello!  Merry Christmas to you all.  Allie is a very good dog and a great asset to our family.  She is quite tall, long, and very lean; probably from the daily outings in the woods with David and me.  She is very "birdy" and actually did quite well at our hunting club field trial, held 2 weeks ago.  They planted two birds, at this puppy trial, and each owner took their pup out and had them quarter and flush the birds.  The gunner then shot and the dog retrieved the birds.  Allie was the youngest at 7 months and she promptly zig-zagged the field, flushed the pigeon, which thankfully our son joshua shot. Allie then quickly ran and retrieved the bird, almost to David's feet, but she stopped for a quick nibbble(not unusual for a pup).  this was the first bird.  The second was also flushed and was too far away for a shot.  She gave chase as the bird circled the field and flew off.  David whistled her back and she came immediately back to him.  This was excellent as another pup did the same kind of chase, except for a 5 minute forrage into the woods!  So allie is not only very obedient, but doing extremely well in the hunting department.  She has a great nose!!!  for her efforts that day, she took a third place!!!  She competed against dogs from 7 to 13 months old, so as you might imagine, we are extremely pleased and love her quite dearly.  She is still my dog, so to speak, but David probably means even more to her as he does with her such favorite  things- hunting and getting the birds, training with the whistle.  She did a wonderful job with a scented dummy this fall, at 4 months old, so we knew she was the right one for us!!!  We almost considered seeing you for a second dog, but we know that one is just right for us at this time.  My mother-in-law recently got a rescue lab/chow/? 4 year dog.  lady and allie are fast friends and can they go!  they run in a fenced in yard at lady's house, and are as fast as a greyhound, round and round, through the field and trees and back to us.  It's great fun to watch and they give equal chase.  so, you might conclude that we and allie are doing well and she's beyond "spoiled" in only the best way.  Thanks for a great start and you are always mentioned when we talk about her beginnings.  Have a healthly new year.  I'll send a photo when joshua can help me get it to you.

Best regards,  Therese and David Denner

Hi Jane,

Just wanted to say Hi! We are enjoying Jazzy so much =)  She is a very smart, very social, and a VERY happy puppy. You were right about each puppy acquiring their own personality. She is so sweet, curious, and eager to please. She loves to be with us and even lays right next to my feet when I fix my hair in the morning. We love her so much and she makes us laugh everyday! Thanks so much again!  I would recommend your dogs to anyone.

PS~ She swims like a fish!!!

Jane,

I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and concern for Basil. You are  truly and wonderful, compassionate breeder who really does care for  your pups, even when they have left your home.  Basil's newest trick is getting the newspaper. It only took 5 x of  going out to the mailbox with her and now we just open the door and  say go get the paper and she comes trotting back with it. It is the  cutest thing and she is so proud and excited. She is an amazing dog in  so many other ways and this is a reflection on you as a breeder and  your wonderful dogs. Thank you for Basil, she puts a smile on my face  every day.

Jane,

Labatt is doing well. He went to the vet yesterday for his last shots.  Our vet was very impressed on how well he behaves and is so calm when he goes in to the vet especially for being 4 months old. He said he is going to be a dog that sits on the front porch and watches the world go by. I said that was fine as we enjoy the calmness and the sweetness he brings to our family. What a wonderful breed you have raised. We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful dog.We thank you so much for the wonderful dogs you raise.Thank you also for taking the time to check on Labatt. As soon as I can I will email you a picture of Labatt. Take care and I will keep in touch.

Heikoops,

Link is doing great.  He had a final puppy vet check up at 4 months and weighed 40lbs.  Health has been excellent.   Neutering is scheduled for Oct. 31st.  We have been working on training ourselves and taking individual classes at Petsmart; he is a very good student and quick learner.  Link loves to play with other dogs.  At home he can go from laying down sleeping one minute to very playful the next but overall is very obedient.  Link is getting his adult teeth in and we found a k-9 tooth today so he's been mouthing a lot lately and we're trying to keep him occupied with toys and rawhides.  He has a great personality and is very loyal - he loves to greet you at the door and lay at our feet when we're relaxing.

We are enjoying Link tremendously and just got back from a backpacking trip to Red River Gorge.  Attached are a few pictures.  We hope to take pup on some kayak adventures very soon.

 Jane,

Thought you might like to see how my future hunting buddy is progressing.  Zevon just turned six months and 55 pounds a few days ago and as you can see from his picture, he's a beautiful, classic, black lab.  He's full of energy and drive and just what I was hoping for.  He loves running beside our horses when we trail ride and has become, my wife, Karen's jogging partner. We had him neutered a couple of  weeks ago and with the help of a trainer, we're working on obedience and retriever hunting fundamentals.  He sometimes needs his enthusiasm curbed (jumping and chewing) but we've found that plenty of exercise is the best solution to keeping him mellowed out.  Thanks to your initial crate training,  we never really had much trouble with potty training.  Within about a month after bringing him to our home he was letting us know when he wanted outdoors to relieve himself. Thanks for all your efforts at producing quality labs and helping to maintain such a wonderful breed!

Jane,

I can't tell you how in love we all are with "Duke."  He is so part of our family.  He actually travels with me to work everyday.  He is the "guard" of my warehouse.  Having all 16,000 sq. ft. to run in all day has been great for him.  He is very social and has become friends with many of my employees and also the regular drivers that deliver or pick up.  This dog is hardly ever lonesome !!  We have been taking him to the vet on regular check ups and he has a very clean bill of health.  I feel very lucky to have in our family.  He will begin obedience classes sometime soon.  I am still looking for the right one.  Can you help me with this ?  I would greatly appreciate a tip on a good teacher.

I am not a hunter.  When we travel to the park, he makes me laugh because his nose takes over and he loves to follow the smells !!!  Once in a while he is a stinker and won't return to me.  But he eventually comes back when he gets tired and lets me put him back on the leash.  I will try to get a photo to you.  He is 61 lbs and has been a great puppy.  My wife really surprised me when she opened the door back in Nov. and he walked in.  It was great.

I hope all is well with you and your family.  Thanks for the e-mail.  I hope to talk to you soon.

Jane,

Brooke is doing very well.  We attended a seven week obedience class at Cascade Animal Hospital with Mike Humphries.  He did a great job of training Kim and me.  Brooke is quite obedient, although like all kids, she has her moments.  She's pretty good at sitting, staying, retrieving, and is still a little stubborn about lying down.  Our biggest issue is that she still likes to "mouth" a lot, but is much better than when we first began working with her.  She was doing very well with house-training, although this weekend she had a couple of episodes where she didn't notify us that she needed to go outside.

I have been working with a starter pistol and she doesn't even flinch.  I haven't introduced her to any live birds yet, but I have done a little work with some pheasant wings.  Like all labs, she loves the water.  I haven't taken her to a lake yet (since there all frozen over), but she likes getting sprayed with a hose.We had her spayed on February 16th (she was already 42 lbs at that point).  She tolerated this well without any difficulty.  Today, she weighed in at 51 lbs (definitely not the runt of the litter). She does well with our girls, although she is still vying for dominance over our seven year old.  We're planning on kenneling her over spring break at Dog Days Kennel.  Kim checked them out and Brooke spent a few hours there playing -- thank you for the recommendation.Overall, we're very happy with Brooke and I anticipate she'll continue to mature nicely as a family dog (and more than likely will do well with hunting as well).I hope this is helpful.  Please feel free to pass on any information/photos you have about any of Brooke's siblings.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul and Kim Kemmeter
